Guest artist, Chase Gentry has been working on a mural in the Art, Agriculture and Technology Education hallways. He is incorporating a variety of images in all three classes within the mural. Chase typically uses pen and ink to create cartoon drawings with an almost realistic and metaphysical touch. Other times he’ll use acrylic paints and watercolors to convey color. Chase enjoys creating on canvas, multimedia paper, wood, doors, household objects, walls, basically anything that you can think of. He’ll also take a turn and paint original designs on clothing and even shoes. He draws inspiration from cartoons and anime. Not only does he love cartoons and implements those ideas into his creations, but he also throws in ideas he’s learned about himself either through self-growth, meditation practices, and nature as a whole. His idea of the importance of imagination can be found in almost every piece of his work. He is forcing the viewer to decide for themselves what it means to them and what colors their mind wants there. He hopes in this way, he can help others look beyond the curtains of art and help people bring their own inner artist out of hiding.

Guest artist, Velga Easker came to demonstrate her collage process to the Mixed Media and 8th grade art class, Wednesday, November13. Velga Easker explores the creative possibilities of the mundane discards of our throwaway culture by deconstructing materials such as canceled postage stamps, security envelopes, junk mail, produce tabs and coffee sleeves. She reassembles this seeming waste into collages which at times resemble traditional fabric quilts.
Students had the opportunity to explore and experience using coffee sleeves and cups to create original collages. Her work is found on her website: https://velgaeaskerart.com/
